Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 12:00pm - 1:30pm
This event is open to the public.

D. Brenton Simons began working at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in 1993 and has served as its President and CEO since 2005. During his long and storied career at the organization he developed some of its most popular services, including its website, member magazine, and special publications imprint. But he has also parlayed his early interests in family history and genealogy into a much more personal, idiosyncratic role as an expert in the fields of early Boston history, genealogical folk art, and family history writing and publishing. In
his talk, he will discuss writing and researching family history today using modern methodology, the importance of DNA, and his award-winning research on Boston history.

D. Brenton Simons is the award-winning author of Witches, Rakes, and Rogues: True Stories of Scam, Scandal, Murder, and Mayhem in Boston, 1630-1775, a popular anthology of nonfiction stories on witchcraft in Boston, New England’s first serial murders, and other previously “untold” stories. He is most recently the author of Boston Beheld: Antique Town and Country Views, hailed by historian Nathaniel Philbrick as “a marvelous visual history of a city in the midst of almost continual change.”

To Reserve: This event is free and open to the public.
