About the Children's Library
The Children’s Library serves the children of Boston Athenæum members from their earliest days through young adulthood. Located on the first floor of the building, the Children’s Library fills two adjoining spaces that are designed to appeal to novice and more sophisticated readers respectively.
The Chris Library Preschool Room is home to a curated selection of board books and picture books, and also features a listening center, an aquarium, and cozy windowseats.
The C. A. Coolidge Young Readers Room contains children's and young adult contemporary fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, and magazines, and provides reading and study space.
The Children's Library offers regular weekly programs for children: Preschool Story Time; Stories, Songs, & Activities; Family Story Time; After-School Read Aloud (ages 5+); and Lego®, Chess, & Puzzle Club. Special children's events take place monthly and include author and illustrator visits, movie nights, puppet shows, art workshops, and concerts. Check out the Upcoming Events—there's bound to be something exciting going on.
