Primary Sources in the Classroom: Teaching the Civil War

July 11 and 12, 2019
8:30 am to 5 pm each day

The Boston Athenæum will hold a two-day workshop for educators on how to effectively incorporate visual and textual primary sources into classroom teaching.

The course will use the Athenæum’s exceptional collections of Civil War-related materials to demonstrate—and allow participants to develop—a range of methods for reading, analyzing, and implementing the use of primary sources. The strategies and practices taught and developed throughout the course will be applicable to using primary sources associated with any historical era or event, as well as to the development of critical thinking skills necessary for contemporary media and digital literacy.
