Images and Shadows

with Katia Lysy

Biographer and historian Iris Origo, the internationally famous biographer and historian, dazzled readers and critics with her writings, ranging from depictions of the Irish countryside to an account of her heroic attempt to save 28 refugee children from German soldiers during World War II. Katia Lysy, Origo’s granddaughter, will discuss her legacy and the journey of bringing these elegant works to American audiences.

Katia Lysy was born in Rome. She has worked for Italian television RAI 3, in publishing, as a journalist and as a literary translator from English and French into Italian. She divides her time between Rome and Val d’Orcia, in southern Tuscany, where she assists her mother Benedetta, daughter of the writer Iris Origo, in the management and development of the family estate of La Foce, whose historic gardens are visited by Iris Origo readers from all over the world.

Katia Lysy has written the afterword to two books by her grandmother, Iris Origo:  A Chill in the Air: An Italian War Diary, 1939-1940, published in 2018 for the first time,  and the Fall 2019 reissue of Images and Shadows: Part of A Life.
