Curator-Led Gallery Talk

Join John Buchtel, Curator of Rare Books and Head of Special Collections, for a gallery talk on Required Reading: Reimagining a Colonial Library.

Showcasing special collections items such as Sir Walter Raleigh's History of the World (1666) and a nine-language Bible (the "London Polyglot," 1657), Required Reading features a contemporary artist's replica of the massive, ark-like bookcase designed in 1883 to house the historic collection. A range of community partners share their own "required reading" lists, expanding and investigating "essential knowledge." Come to be informed, surprised, and intrigued, as well as to reflect on your own indispensable books.

Each tour is limited to 10 participants.

To register, follow the registration button on the right. If you would prefer your information to pre-populate, log in to your My Athenæum Profile. To log in to your My Athenæum Profile click on the profile icon found in the upper right corner of each page on our website.

If you do not yet have a profile, select “New User? Create an account” on the Profile Login page. Members create their own accounts; a username and password are not assigned when you join the Athenæum.
