Meet Us There! Day Trip: "Shipwrecked" in Worcester
Join fellow Athenæum members for a special day trip to Worcester to visit a former “resident” of 10 ½ Beacon Street.
We will begin our day at the Worcester Art Museum where we will meet with members of staff to learn about the museum’s restoration of and exhibition plans for Edward Augustus Brackett’s Shipwrecked Mother and Child. The 1.5-ton sculpture, which Brackett completed in 1851, entered the museum’s collection as a gift of the artist in 1904, after having been on view at the Boston Athenæum from 1854 to the early 1900s.
After lunch at the Museum Café, we’ll visit the American Antiquarian Society for a docent-led tour and a private viewing of materials from special collections.
Museum and library admissions, as well as lunch, are included in the program fee. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and parking fees.
Please contact Hannah Weisman at weisman@bostonathenaeum.org to request accessibility information and accommodations.
