IN-PERSON PRESENTATION: Eye of the Expert: A Special Collections Tasting Menu
with Kaelin Rasmussen, Graham Skinner, and Hannah Weisman
Does the holiday season have you thinking nonstop about food? Boston Athenæum staffers Kaelin Rasmussen, Graham Skinner, and Hannah Weisman invite you to explore food-related items in the BA’s special collections with them through their bite-sized presentations on chocolate, mince pies, and okonomiyaki. Whether you’re already steeped in culinary history or the idea of learning more about the cultural impact of food has just started percolating, you’re sure to relish the stories (and recipes!) that Kaelin, Graham, and Hannah have to share.
Kaelin Rasmussen’s long-standing affinity for all things bookish led her to a career in libraries. She has a master's degree in library and information science from Simmons University and has worked as a rare materials catalog librarian at the Athenæum for six years. One of the most satisfying aspects of her job is combining her knowledge, training, and experience to help make the unique items in the BA's collection, from incunabula to contemporary artists' books, visible and available to anyone.
Graham Skinner is a rare materials catalog librarian, focusing primarily on the Athenæum’s rare books and visual materials. They earned their master’s degree in library and information science from Simmons University and hold a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Indiana University of Bloomington.
Prior to serving as the Athenæum’s director of education, Hannah Weisman worked at The Farmers’ Museum (NY), Shelburne Museum (VT), and Historic Newton. She holds a master’s degree in museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program. When she’s not at the BA, she can be found volunteering for SpeakEasy Stage Company or teaching a community tai chi class.
