A Benefit for the Conservation Lab of the Boston Athenæum

The special collections team and conservators of the Boston Athenæum have hand-selected treasures from the collection, including rare books, maps, paintings, and prints, that are in need of special care. Join us for a rare opportunity to view these materials, then bid on your favorite object in a silent auction to sponsor its conservation treatment. Your support will ensure that these one-of-a-kind works of art and literature are preserved for generations to come. Conservation and the special collections staff will present the diverse selection of items, explain their significance, and outline the treatments each will need.

Take a look at the item catalog for a sneak peek at the items that will be at this year’s events. Up for conservation this year are a New England socialite’s diary, a photo of a 19th-century train wreck, WWII propaganda posters, and our largest item ever featured, a 32 square foot panorama of Rome.

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

You can still support Conservation Evening and the work of the Athenæum's conservation lab even if you are unable to attend the event by making a gift today.

For question about the items or about the conservation lab, please contact Chief Conservator Dawn Walus at 617-720-7632 or walus@bostonathenaeum.org.
