Hours & Admission

Red doors of 10 1/2The Athenæum is open to members for book pick-up and drop-off in the lobby, and by appointment to use the reading rooms.

Up to five Day Passes are now available for non-members each day.

Read the latest updates about our COVID-19 response.

Pass through the red doors at 10½ Beacon Street to discover one of Boston’s most enduring, treasured cultural institutions.

Explore the library's first floor to see highlights from the collections, take a tour with a docent to learn about our history and holdings, or join one of the thought-provoking events we host every week (virtually, for now).

However you choose to experience the Athenæum, we offer a warm welcome, along with an invitation to return.

**The accessible pathway into the BA has moved temporarily. Scaffolding on the facade for the current renovation project is obstructing the ramp to the front doors. The scaffolding will remain in place for the project's duration, until November or December 2020. For accommodation via an alternative entrance nearby, please call us at (617)720-7604.**
