Red doors of 10 1/2

Step through the whimsical red leather doors at 10½ Beacon Street to discover one of Boston’s oldest and most treasured cultural institutions. Explore the first floor at your own pace to discover treasures of the Athenæum’s collections, take a tour with a docent to dig deeper into the Athenæum’s history and collections, or join us for one of our many thought-provoking events. However you choose to experience the Athenæum, we are certain you will want to return!


Public Hours

Tuesdays 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Wednesday to Saturday  10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Member Hours

Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Gordon Newspaper Room opens at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays
Please visit the "Lists of Closings" page for the days the building will be closed.
Please be advised that both Terrace areas will be secured for the winter effective Friday, November 9, 2018, unless weather conditions or safety concerns dictate an earlier closing date.
